With their new single “Power”, Pachakuti and young.vishnu deliver a strong political statement against white supremacy and racism.
Musically, “Power” is a heavy deep funk tune reminiscent of the Meters and Poets Of Rhythm and features Masha Kashyna on vibraphone. The groove works as the perfect backbeat for a speech by Civil Rights and Black Power movement leader Stokely Carmichael, delivered in the early 90s:

“We must understand, the problems we suffer
is only because we are powerless.
If a white man wants to lynch me, that’s his problem.
If he has the power to lynch me, that’s my problem.
So the only reason why the white man
can lynch me, is because I’m powerless.
Subsequently, the only way I can fight white
supremacy is through power.
P-O-W-E-R!
And the only way you get political power
is through the organized masses.”

Inspired by Stokely’s sharp analysis as well as humorous and assertive argument, Pachakuti composed „Power“ to remind today’s movements against racism and white supremacy across the globe of the historical leadership the Black Power movement of the 1970s plays for us until today, including their clear visions of power and self-defense, and the contagious attitude of pride, courage and certainty.

As for all of the tracks of the „Semilla“ LP, Pachakuti added a poem by his own to enhance the track with his own understanding of Power:

P-O-W-E-R
is not domination,
is not exploitation,
is not oppression.
It is the ability
to understand and respect
to serve and defend
to care and unite.

As the Panthers said.
Black Power for Black People.
Brown Power for Brown People.
Red Power for Red People.
Yellow Power for Yellow People.
White Power for White People.
All Power for all the People.
For each and every one of Us.

About Stokely Carmichael

Stokely Carmichael was the young civil rights leader who, in 1966, popularized the phrase "black power." Carmichael was a leading force in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and "Honorary Prime Minister" of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense (BPP), and lastly leader of the All-African People's Revolutionary Party.
Inspired by Malcolm X's example, he articulated a philosophy of black power and became one of the most popular and controversial Black leaders of the late 1960s. J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI, secretly identified Carmichael as the man most likely to succeed Malcolm X as America's "black messiah". The FBI targeted him for personal destruction through its COINTELPRO program, and Carmichael fled to Africa in 1968. He re-established himself in Ghana, and then Guinea by 1969. There he adopted the new name of Kwame Ture and began campaigning internationally for revolutionary socialist Pan-Africanism.
Carmichael was married to Miriam Makeba from 1968 to 1973. He died in 1998.
